My original problem:
I am trying to install the latest recommended patches on a Solaris 2.5
machine.
Every patch fails with this error:
pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
The answer: pkgadd runs ar uid nobody, and thus, permissions on the patch
directory and sub-structure must be generous.
