Thanks to the following; the only two responses I received:

Kevin Sheehan <Kevin.Sheehan@uniq.com.au>
Jochen Bern <bern@TI.Uni-Trier.DE>

Original Problem:
>

>I sign on, bring up openwindows, run for several hours (3, 4, 8 or a whole day)

>until today. This is what I got:

>This happens with or without "xlock" on. Any ideas?

Solution:

None; so the problem remains.

To Jochen Bern, I do not have any cron jobs doing any cleaning of /tmp at all.
Kevin Sheehan provided a better clue to the puzzle; but, since the system has
all the Sun recommended patches especially 103900-01 and 103901-05 it is hard
to tell what the fix could be. I will be looking into it when I am less busy.
