A few weeks ago, I asked about what are the proper jumper settings
for use of a Seagate Hawk ST31051N drive in a SparcStation 2 running
SunOS 4.1.4. From the answers I received I chose to set the jumpers
as shown below; however, something still seems to be wrong. Upon
booting, I get the following errors on the console:
esp0: Current command timeout for Target 3 Lun 0
esp0: State=DATA_DONE (0xa), Last State=DATA (0x9)
esp0: Cmd dump for Target 3 Lun 0:
esp0: cdb=[ 0x8 0x3 0x2e 0xa0 0x10 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 ]
esp0: Target 3.0 reducing sync. transfer rate
esp0: Reverting to slow SCSI cable mode
sd0: SCSI transport failed: reason 'reset': retrying command
syncing file systems... done
The disk does work, though it seems slow. Does anyone know if the
above errors mean that I have the jumpers set incorrectly or if
there is something wrong with the disk?

The ST31051N jumpers are set as follows:
a. On jumper block J6, I jumpered 5 & 6 to give a SCSI ID
of 3 so that this will be the new root disk.
b. On jumper block J2, I made the following settings:
1- don't care if jumper 8 is out.
2- don't care if jumper 8 is out.
3- jumper out.
4- jumper out for parity enabled.
5- jumper out for read/write.
6- jumper in for use in Sun workstation.
7- jumper out.
8- jumper out for no termination.
