Here is my original message:

Hi Sun Gurus:

I am working with SunOS 4.1.3 on a Sparc10 and am adding a SCSI hard drive.
If anyone happens to know the format.dat entry for the Fujitsu M2954ESP
drive, please pass it on. I have obtained some of the information, but do
not know all of the syntax, etc. of the entry. Here is the information I
have (from Fujitsu):

5074 Data Cylinders
2 Alternate Cylinders
5076 Physical Cylinders
9 Hds.
186 Sectors
7200rpm

If you are knowledgeable enough to put together the format.dat entry, or
have one that works, please send it to me.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

The specific information I needed was supplied by Rudy Yu:

disk_type="M2954ESP"\
:ctlr=SCSI\
:ncyl=5074 : acyl=2 : pcyl=5076 : nhead=9\
:nsect=186 : rpm=7200 : bpt=95232

partition="M2954ESP"\
:disk="M2954ESP" : ctlr=SCSI\
:g=0, 4092930 : h=2445, 4092930

Be aware that SunOS 4.1.x only handle 2GB per file system.

Hope this help.

Thanks Rudy. The format.dat entry worked perfectly. And thanks for the
additional
note at the end which enabled me to succeed in creating the file systems
and mounting
them. I did not have to use scsiinfo, which most of the respondents
suggested, and is probably the way to go in most cases.
