Problem/Objectives

• Proposed systems are presented as a ``bundled'' package:
  language features,
  computation rule,
  parallelism principles,
  concurrency control, ...
• Can we study each issue separately?
• Can we reuse implementation technology?
  (analysis, optimizations, abstract machines, etc.)
• Vision [PPCP'94]:
  • Separation of issues
    (e.g., parallelism principle vs. control rules)
  • Identification of principles independently of level of granularity at which they are applied
    (e.g., goal level vs. binding level)
  together allow
  • identifying commonalities in languages and implementation technology,
  • finding unifying principles,
  • transferring ideas across systems,
  • implementing unified systems in a simple way.
• Objective: implement a system to test this viewpoint.
