With the approval of COMPULOG-NET II a new area of the net has been created on the topic of ``Parallelism and Implementation Technologies'' applied to Computational Logic Systems. The objective of the area is to serve as a communications vehicle for members interested in subjects from research in basic technologies for the implementation of Computational Logic systems to practical issues in such implementation. The transfer to and exploitation of such technology by industry and the general application of Computational Logic are also issues of central interest of the area.
Topics include: Implementation techniques, Foundations of parallelism and concurrency, Abstract Machines, Compilation methods, Program Optimization, Parallel Execution Models, Automatic Parallelization, Concurrent/Parallel languages, Performance Evaluation methodologies and studies, etc.
Activities that are specific to the area include the

mailing list and an annual
meeting. Last year's meeting was held in Madrid. A brief report on
this meeting is included in this issue of the newsletter. In order to
make it as easy as possible for people to attend the meeting future
meetings will be coordinated with related conferences. This year's
meeting will be held in conjunction with PLILP'94, also to be held in
Madrid this year. An official announcement is also included elsewhere
in this issue of the newsletter. Our main objective with these
activities is to improve information flow in the area.
We also hope to help coordinate the distribution of Computational Logic systems, manuals, benchmarks, etc. through the use of the Compulog Net ftp services as centralized repositories of the above (or, at least, pointers to them), in addition to the usual role of such services in the distribution of abstracts of publications in the area.

Finally, if you know of any institutions or groups, academic or industrial, which may have not been interested in joining the network before but might be because of the new area please pass on the announcement to them and please suggest that they apply for network membership (it is our understanding that at this point groups in countries not in the EU can also join, even though they are not able to be supported directly by the network funds received from the EC).
