I would like to thank everyone for their timely answers to my
question. Thanks to:

It sounds like it would not be worth it to try generic sca 9 gig
drives in our ssa 100. Issues brougth up include:

1) Not sufficient cooling ( the 9 gig drives are 7200 rpm)

2) Not sufficient power supply (see #1)

3) Firmware in the drives may not be compatible with ssa 100.
(It seems that the 1 gig drives we have in there now have
some special firmware in order to work in the ssa 100).

We have had no trouble with any of the drives so far (about 2
years, ... knock on wood) and they are covered under a service
contract so if they do fail it won't be our problem (at least
not our problem to fix it).

I think we'll leave it alone for now.

Thanks again!!

Scott
