This may be known since the server has been out a while, but I haven't
seen it on the list before. If so, be gentle! :) If you have the BackWeb
Eval Server v.3 (Eval only because you didn't buy a license) it can
easily be worked around so you can continually have your evaluation
period renewed without re-installing or losing information.
The crippling info is stored in a license.dat file located (usually) at:
X:\Backweb Server\data\misc\license.dat
the file should look something like:
SOLD_TO=BackWeb Evaluation Server
EVALUATION_PERIOD=30
LC_DATE=1997.06.08
LC_NUMBER=3
LC_HOST=738929376
LC_USER=Joe
LC_SIGNATURE=3e6df1caae1b0660a9386bee64215fda
when your eval is over, stop the server, edit anything in this file,
restart.. you will be told it is expired.. stop the server, edit this
file back to it original form, then restart again. You will have another
30 days. A real easy way to keep this going is to write a .bat file that
will do all this for you every 28 or so days (it's good to restart the
server anyways.. so might as well add in the file change).
I have told BackWeb about this..but don't know how far it got.. I assume
they will change this (and the fact that the server admin passwords are
text) in the next server version.
