Data-Parallelism

• Data-parallelism:
  • A restricted form of and-parallelism.
  • Impose additional restrictions in exchange for efficiency (in this sense, not unlike some approaches in and-parallelism - e.g., fork/join).
  • Good results for programs where conditions apply.
  • Restrictions: one loop at a time, ...

• One would like to have the best of both worlds:
  • Speedup for the cases where data-parallelism applies.
  • Generality elsewhere.
